The FTDI USB chip can be damaged by large differential voltages on the USB cable, for example, if the cable touches +12V, or by faulty grounds on laptop chargers.
You can of course send it to us to get it replaced for free, but you can also do it yourself if you prefer.
The USB chip part number is FT230XS, and the ESD-protection chip USBLC6-2SC6 can also get damaged in some cases.
After replacement, the chip needs to be programmed via the USB cable. Use the FTDI Prog utility and the "MaxxECU FT230XS.xml" file found on our website download section.
